Owned and managed by the ABDU family who are known for their passion for hospitality. The ABDU family has been in the hospitality business since 1974, when Ladakh was first opened for tourism. Seizing this opportunity, the family patriarch the late Mr. Din Mohammed, had then opened their first property, Hotel Dragon. The opening year brought in a total of 527 tourists of which, 500 were foreign and 27 domestic.
Following in their father’s footsteps, the brothers Gulam Mustafa and Ghulam Mohiuddin developed and conceptualised The Grand Dragon, Ladakh. Minutes from the airport and situated in the heart of the city centre, this indigenously designed hotel’s architecture incorporates the famous Rabsal tradition of Ladakh, visible in the window treatments and balconies.
The dream child of Gulam Mustafa, also known as the first modern artist of Ladakh, it comes as no surprise that The Grand Dragon, Ladakh is also beautifully adorned with his paintings capturing ancient Ladakhi architecture and culture.
The Grand Dragon Ladakh is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. As a start, it has set up its own water filtration plant to provide artisanal water in glass bottles for guest use, thereby reducing one time use of plastic. It also promotes inclusion of local ingredients in its cuisine such as buckwheat, sea buckthorn, yak cheese, apricot thereby encouraging farm-to-fork. As part of its sustainability initiative there’s special emphasis on the use of bamboo amenities, biodegradable consumables, linen re-use by guests, and non-toxic laundry detergents as well as paraben-free bathroom amenities.
